Free trees and expert advice

STANHOPE Gardens Leisure Centre will be lush with native greenery on August 7, when Blacktown Council's Travelling Tree Giveaway program arrives.

Residents can choose any two of a selection of 2500 native and exotic plants for free.

The council will also provide free microchipping for dogs and cats on the day, from 9am to 1pm.

Blacktown mayor Charlie Lowles sees the project as a great opportunity. ``It's come just in time for the spring growing season,'' he said.

The plants will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, with nursery staff present to help residents select the most suitable plants for their gardens.

For further information on the Travelling Tree Giveaway, visit blacktown.nsw.gov.au, or call Blacktown Council's Environmental Sustainability Section on 98396000.
