Adoption paw choice

23 Feb, 2010 11:02 AM
PUPPY love was in the air when the RSPCA Care Centre at Rouse Hill Town Centre launched its inaugural Pawfect Match pet-adoption drive on the Valentine's Day weekend.

The project aims to have 50,000 dogs and cats adopted in 2010 and is a joint initiative of RSPCA NSW and Hill's Pet Nutrition.

A new home was found for 18 animals over the launch weekend.

The RSPCA's NSW executive manager of animal wellbeing, Sue Hill, said the drive's start date was inspired by the idea that everyone human or animal seeks love.

``We're looking for permanent homes for these animals, so people and families who are looking to make a life-long commitment to a pet are encouraged to come to the Care Centre or to the shelters,'' she said. ``A lot of people tend to think the shelters are sad places but they're really only sad when people don't visit them.''

The RSPCA launched an online resource in time for the drive to help people find the most suitable pet.

``People can get on to the Pawfect Match website and take a quiz to identify what temperament of animal might suit their family and this will help us to select an animal with them. Pets just add such a fabulous dimension to human life. They teach us about trust, acceptance and unconditional love.''
