The mothers and staff at Hear The Children Early Intervention Centre are celebrating after the event enabled them to reach their fund-raising target of $210,000 to keep the centre open.
Co-president Yvonne Keane said about 160 women attended the Spring Fashion Brunch at Castle Hill RSL on Sunday, where almost $15,000 was raised from ticket sales, raffles, games and an auction of donated prizes.
‘‘For us it’s a big defining moment,’’ Mrs Keane said.
‘‘We have a constant need to fundraise and to reach our target ahead of schedule has made us buoyant and re-energised us. This gives us a head start on next year.’’
‘‘To every single person who bought tickets and supported us, we are so very grateful.’’
Guests enjoyed a high tea and a preview of spring and summer fashion available at Castle Towers.
Stylist Colleen Cuneo and former Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic shared their secrets for creating an enviable wardrobe and offered commentary on a range of outfits.
Jenny Myers from Erics Hair Salon and Rene Thorpe from The Temple skincare and gave practical advice for hair and beauty.
Rachael Bastin attended the event with her mother and sister and said she could have never imagined she would leave with a one carat diamond.
She is getting married in February and has a crystal in her engagement ring. She is considering using the diamond for an extra special wedding band.
‘‘I’m a little bit shaky, just over the moon!’’ she said.
‘‘I have three nieces and hopefully will have kids of my own one day, so it’s great to know that if they have hearing impairments there is this service that is ready and willing to help.’’
The centre needs to raise $210,000 every year to continue to provide free auditory verbal therapy to the 18 enrolled hearing impaired children. The therapy enables the children to learn to listen and speak so they can attend mainstream schools.
The centre’s next event will be a Garden Tea Party, to be held in a five star garden in Kenthurst at 12.30pm on October 17. Tickets $30, www.hearthechildren.org.au
