THERE were cheers and applause when the Hills branch of the Sydney Women's Business Network met on Friday for lunch. Network co-founder Natalie Moutia had just asked the members how they felt about Australia's first female prime minister.
The News asked several members how they felt about the historic events. Norwest Childcare Centre co-owner Ngaire Hutchinson said it was about time.
``It's astounding we don't have more women who are politicians,'' she said. Ms Hutchinson was not as happy about the way in which the milestone was achieved. ``The only thing I'm not as happy about is she wasn't democratically elected. I'll be interested to see if it becomes a vote about women or a vote about policies.''
Tanzie Clark from Kaleidoscope Design Management said it was a positive step. ``Being a female business owner, you encounter a whole different set of struggles. So seeing a female in the role of prime minister is inspirational.''
Jan Ashton-Ross of Hills Natural Health said a woman would bring a different perspective to the role of Prime Minister. I think it's fantastic to have a female in that position of power,'' she said.
