HILLS mayor Peter Dimbrowsky wants Premier Kristina Keneally to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the council promising to improve transport in the north-west.
Ms Keneally recently signed an MOU with Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore that included 16 initiatives to make the CBD more pedestrian friendly and transport easier to use. The initiatives included a cycle network and building new light rail through the CBD.
"The MOU is about infrastructure for the future growth of Sydney, but how about something for north-west Sydney?" Cr Dimbrowsky said. "It's a bit cheeky."
He said building the North West Rail should have been a more urgent priority and that it did not make sense to allocate money to light rail in the city when the growing north-west did not have rail access.
"It shouldn't be just about the city but also about the people getting to and from the city," he said. "We're saying she's got it wrong again.
"We deserve our fair share of infrastructure and continue to get overlooked.
"What about the part of Sydney that provides all the growth in Sydney?"
Cr Dimbrowsky invited Ms Kenneally to visit The Hills and discuss what could be done to improve transport.
"Our population will have increased by well over 4000 in the next six years alone," he said.
"The signing of an MOU with the Premier to show a commitment to providing improved transport links for all these new people would be a very wise and welcome move."
