GEORGIE Bennett has been waiting two years for the opportunity to take her disabled five-year-old daughter Holly to the shops.
But for now, it's not safe, because there are no footpaths in Panmure Street, Rouse Hill, where Mrs Bennett has to walk on the five-minute trip to the shops in Adelphi Street.
Mrs Bennett says she's not strong enough to push Holly's wheelchair onto the grass on the sides of the street and is worried about the danger of wheeling her daughter on the road.
``I rang Baulkham Hills Council two years ago asking how to get a footpath in our street and they told me it was definitely not zoned for one,'' said Mrs Bennett, who has also written to the council but has not received a reply.
She contacted Cr Barbara Burton before the September elections to ask for help. Cr Burton said that establishing footpaths in Panmure Street was her ``top priority''.
``This is a special needs case and it needs special needs attention,'' Cr Burton said.
Cr Burton said she had spoken to the council's group manager for service delivery about implementing the footpaths and had been told they would cost $10,000 and should be completed within one to four months.
Mrs Bennett says her family is not the only one endangered and inconvenienced by the lack of footpaths.
She says many mothers find it dangerous, especially when cars are parked on each side of the road.
``Kids who walk to Rouse Hill Public school or the shops have to walk onto the road if they want to get there,'' she said.
