GLENWOOD residents have called Blacktown Council's commitment to spend $155,000 to build an additional 42 car spaces next to the development of a third soccer field at Glenwood Reserve a token gesture.
The need for extra parking was noted by residents along with an objection to the felling of trees when the Foreman Avenue development was first flagged.
The council has now made this $155,000 commitment to parking, but on a smaller scale than residents had expected.
Resident Bob McKay said he would have liked to have seen ``closer to 200'' car spaces built.
``It's not beyond the realms of ridiculous, considering the fact that all of the existing car parking there is full on a Saturday when the fields are in use, and all the overflow goes on to Foreman Avenue and neighbouring streets,'' Mr McKay said.
``It's token and it clearly demonstrates how out of touch the council is with the residents' needs.
``That works out at $3690.47 per car space. ``When you bring it down to that level you think `Gee whiz!' ''
A council spokesman said the estimate for the proposed car park at Glenwood Reserve was considered very cost-effective because it would be constructed at the same time as the playing field.
