Hannah wants to help

29 Jun, 2010 12:00 AM
IF YOU see Hannah Mitchell in Castle Hill this week, please stop to say hello.

Hannah will be walking around Lacebark Way and Bolwarra Crescent during the school holidays, selling raffle tickets to raise money for Hear The Children Early Intervention Centre.

The 10-year-old first heard about the centre when the mothers of two hearing-impaired children visited Hills Grammar School, where Hannah is in year 5.

``I thought it would be a good charity to support and that I could fund-raise money for them,'' Hannah said.

``It's helping kids and making them happier.''

Hannah decided to start volunteering her time to help others after watching an episode of the television show Random Acts of Kindness.

``I thought it would be fun and good to help other people less fortunate than me,'' she said.

``It makes me feel happy the money raised will go towards making other people happy.''

She has previously raised $160 for Ronald McDonald House and $250 for the McGrath Foundation.

Hannah said her family and best friend Laura Romeo had been a valuable source of support.

Hear The Children co-president Yvonne Keane said Hannah was a special girl.

``She is a shining example to everyone in our community,'' Mrs Keane said.

``To be so young and so filled with the spirit of philanthropy is incredibly unique, and to give up her school holidays to fund-raise is extraordinary.

``We are just so grateful that Hannah has chosen Hear the Children as her charity of choice.

``She is an absolute inspiration and we hope everyone in the community she calls upon treats her well.''

Hannah's uncle Keith agreed.

``Once in a lifetime someone really special comes along,'' he said.

``Hannah really is the dearest child anyone could ever ask for.''
