MEET Colin Dawson and Toni Wright-Turner the Greens candidates who will challenge Alex Hawke and Philip Ruddock at the next federal election.
While they acknowledge it may be an uphill battle, both are determined to provide an alternative voice for conservative environmentalists and progressive voters in the Hills.
Mr Dawson, of Bella Vista, joined the Greens four years ago and will stand for Mitchell, which is held by Mr Hawke.
The technical writer is particularly passionate about sustainability. He grows vegetables and keeps chickens in his backyard.
``A lot of people assume I'm a conservative but I see myself as an evangelist, taking the Greens message out there about what we could be doing,'' he said.
Glenhaven resident Toni Wright-Turner will contest Mr Ruddock's seat of Berowra.

The candidates believe their biggest challenge will come from the Climate Change Coalition, but say the Greens stand for more than environmental issues.
Mr Dawson will hinge his election campaign on addressing the lack of public transport in the Hills.
Whe n Mr Dawson moved to the Hills he was told the rail line would be built within two years. That was in 1995.
He now travels two hours each way from Bella Vista to North Sydney, every day.
``It just doesn't make sense within a major growth centre,'' he said.
