NATIONAL Tree Day is fast approaching and Rouse Hill House and Farm have events planned for Sunday, August 1.
Starting at 11am, visitors can take part in a guided tour of the garden focusing on the Australian native trees including the impressive Moreton Bay figs from the 1850s. At the same time there is a Rouseabout tour designed for families to reminisce about the traditional farming routines such as collecting eggs and feeding the chickens across the paddock. Children will also be able to plant their own seed in a pot to take home as a memento of National Tree Day.
At 1pm, a 19th century nature walk will be taken by Miss Fox, aka guide Belinda Mitrovich, who will highlight the native tree species and explain their importance and role in the environment.
Ms Mitrovich said National Tree Day was a great way for families to get moving and spend some quality time surrounded by nature.
``We are trying to show families what children from the 1890s had to do to look after nature,'' Ms Mitrovich said.
``This is our first time running an event for National Tree Day and we hope to continue sharing these tours in the future.''
If you decide to come along, make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and suitable clothing for a ramble in the garden.
