It's bye-bye to a long friendship

29 Jun, 2010 12:00 AM
A LAST-minute push for The Hills to remain a member of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils has failed. The council voted last year to end its 35-year membership from June30.

But Labor councillors Tony Hay, Barbara Burton and David Bentham moved at Tuesday's meeting asking for this decision to be overturned and for the council to retain its membership.

Cr Hay said the $62,000 annual fee was worth it as the body had run a media campaign against the cap on developer contributions that he estimated would have cost the council $100,000.

But Cr Justin Taunton said the ``glorified Toastmasters club'' had not properly represented The Hills Shire on numerous matters.

Mayor Peter Dimbrowsky said the relationship that once suited was no longer viable.
