AN opening and blessing ceremony was held on September 6 at Our Lady of the Rosary (OLOR) Primary School, Kellyville, to officially open the school's new multi-purpose hall.
The project received $3 million under the federal government's Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) initiative, part of the Building the Education Revolution (BER) program.
The St Bonaventure multi-purpose hall is an architecturally-designed, flexible space that will cater for a range of learning activities and school gatherings and serve as a venue for parish activities.
Retiring principal Pat Mervin, who oversaw the project, said the hall enabled greater collaboration, better access to technology, and a space for community use.
"Our new multi-purpose hall enables us to teach and learn in a more collaborative manner," Mrs Mervin said.
"The students now have greater access to digital technologies and an appropriate venue for creative arts performances, indoor sports and whole school assemblies, as well as other celebrations involving the parish community."
The new hall was blessed by Emeritus Bishop Kevin Manning and officially opened by executive director of schools Greg Whitby and federal Senator Doug Cameron.
Other special guests included Federal Member for Mitchell Alex Hawke, OLOR assistant priest Father Paschal Corby, Darug tribe elder Aunty Betty Watson, and OLOR foundation principal Sr Carmelita Cassar.
OLOR also received $200,000 under the National School Pride program, another component of the BER, for the refurbishment of learning spaces, installation of a PA system and an electrical power supply upgrade enabling them to make better use of technology.
