THE failure of Labor leader Kristina Keneally to come to listen to local voters during the Penrith byelection proves she is not interested in communities in the west and north-west,'' says the Liberal candidate for Riverstone, Kevin Conolly.
``How's she going to get the message if she's not prepared to meet the people of the region?'' he asked.
``She barely appeared at the byelection, came late on polling day and couldn't even be there with the Labor candidate to hear the votes coming in.
``So there's little hope she'll take seriously issues like improved transport in the north-west and that was obvious in the State Budget.''
He said the recent state budget failed to invest in any new major road or transport projects for the region.
``It's simply baffling the Keneally Labor government doesn't think it a priority to fund any new major roads projects in the growth centre areas of north-west Sydney.
``And with Labor's constant delays or cancellations to the north-west rail project there's no improvement in sight for long-suffering commuters in the region, either.
``Ms Keneally needs to explain how new-home buyers in the growth areas of north-western Sydney are supposed to get to and from work each day.''
Mr Conolly said the government promised to spend $83million on the north-west rail-link land acquisition in last year's budget.
``Instead they only spent $699,000. Was this only one single property?
``Clearly the Keneally Labor Government has no commitment to the north-west rail link.
``They're just going through the motions in the lead-up to another election.''
