No cash needed in big swap

15 Jun, 2010 12:36 PM
RESIDENTS will have a chance to donate or swap clothes, DVDs, books, CDs and bric-a-brac in good condition at The Hills Shire Council's Big Aussie Swap Shop this Saturday.

The event will be held at Wright's Road Community Centre, Kellyville, and aims to be like one large garage sale where you don't need to spend a cent.

The swap aims to help the environment too, as it promotes reuse and gives residents a place to discard unwanted items and avoid landfill.

``People get a buzz out of seeing someone else take their unwanted items and vice versa,'' a council spokeswoman said.

``Other environmental benefits include greenhouse gas reduction, water and energy savings and keeping valuable resources out of landfill.''

Kellyville resident Annette Zubrycki is excited to take part and has collected clothes that are good condition that she no longer wears for the swap.

``I'm thinking of other things now I've got upstairs in the wardrobe that really don't fit or I don't wear them, but they're fine,'' she said.

``And someone else may think, `Gee that's nice' so I think it's a great idea.

``Even though it's a swap, it doesn't have to be. People might not bring things, or I may take these and not see anything else and that's fine.

``It's like me taking it to the Salvation Army clothing disposal anything that's left goes to The Smith Family, so that's a plus too.''

Old mobile phones and household batteries will also be accepted at the event then recycled.

The swap shop will run from 10am to 1pm at Wrights Road Community Centre, corner of Wrights Road and Harrington Avenue, Kellyville. All good quality children's, teenagers', ladies' and men's clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac will be accepted on the day. No whitegoods. Details: 98430505.
