TENDERS have been called to help finalise the design of the North West Rail Link.
Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly announced last week that new tenders have been called to help finalise design and operations options for the link.
He said the successful tenderer for engineering, rail systems and architecture services would form an integral part of the North West Rail Link project team.
"It will provide ongoing technical expertise to ensure the end product meets the needs of commuters and the community," he said.
"The O'Farrell government is pressing ahead with the North West Rail Link, and this is another step in the process of fast-tracking this vital piece of infrastructure.
"The families and the businesses of the north-west have waited long enough, and that's why the O'Farrell government is determined to deliver this rail link as soon as possible.
"The successful tenderer will undertake development design studies such as rail systems, tunnelling assessments, station infrastructure planning, rail safety and risk assessments."
Mr Conolly said the studies would include a review of all previous design and planning work.
Further tenders are being prepared for master-planning and urban design services, geotechnical advisory services, geotechnical site investigations and land survey.
"There is overwhelming business and community support for fast-tracking the North West Rail Link," Mr Conolly said.
"The construction of the North West Rail Link will not only benefit local residents and businesses in Riverstone, all of Sydney will benefit from the removal of cars from roads and buses in the CBD.
Mr Conolly said the federal government's recent budget had failed to acknowledge that the people of NSW had "voted decisively on March 26 for the North West Rail Link to be given priority".
"Given that the former Labor government's own submissions for federal infrastructure funds shared that priority, it is only the Gillard government which is out of step."
Tenders will be advertised and placed on the Government's eTendering website, https://tenders.nsw
.gov.au/. Tenders close on June 13.
