Pet registration easier

26 Jan, 2010 03:00 AM
NO need to take a trip to the council's offices to register your new pet it can now be done at the library.

Vinegar Hill Memorial Library at Rouse Hill Town Centre offers a full range of council services from rate payments to hall hire and, like all Hills Shire Council libraries, takes payments for dog and cat registrations.

Library team leader Vicki Micallef said 258 dog and cat registrations were paid for across all branches in the past six months, 63 of them at Vinegar Hill Memorial Library.

``It's all electronic we do it immediately and give them a receipt within a few minutes so it's quite easy and straightforward,'' she said. ``It's very convenient for people especially if they live in the area.''

Payments can be made using EFTPOS, credit card or cheque.

Leah Willett from RSPCA Care Centre said registration was important in the event of pets being lost or stolen.

``In the case of a missing pet, if you've got yours microchipped and you've registered them, they can trace your pet straight back to you that's the most important thing,'' she said.

``A lot of people lose their animal say if there is a storm or fireworks and the dog gets out and if it's not chipped and registered then you do lose it.''

Pet registration costs $140, or $40 for desexed animals.
