Plea for bus service from Stanhope Gardens to North Sydney

21 Sep, 2010 12:00 AM
COMMUTERS from Stanhope Gardens to North Sydney take two buses and almost as many hours to get to work in the city each day.

But one resident plans to take their plight to the government and Westbus in the hope of establishing a better alternative.

Malcolm Ninnes has started a campaign to call for a direct bus service from Stanhope Gardens to North Sydney.

Mr Ninnes wants fellow commuters to sign a petition or lodge their concerns direct with the state transport department.

"I used to commute to the city two years ago," he said.

"So I've been doing the bus change shuffle.

"I've noticed a lot more people catching the bus from Stanhope Gardens then changing at the M2 to go to North Sydney.

"I'm trying to get a petition together for a direct service to North Sydney to negate the need to swap buses every day."

Mr Ninnes said the buses were meant to connect and that a wait of only about 5-10 minutes should be expected.

"But the buses never show up on time, so the wait can be 15 to 45 minutes," he said.

'Two weeks ago I started a petition and I've got about 50 people who have emailed me so far - and that's just existing commuters.

"I'll pass it on to NSW Transport and I'm meeting next week [Riverstone MP] John Aquilina."

Mr Ninnes has asked people to email their details to him at 612x@iinet.net.au or call the transport info line on 131 500.

"The feedback I've had from staff [at the info line] was that individual cases can carry more weight," he said.

"I've spoken to a few people on the train over the past few months, so there are probably 100 more people catching the train from Seven Hills who would prefer to catch the bus to North Sydney.

"The government says it wants more people on public transport but their current services aren't that enticing.

"They say they're listening, so I just want to see if they want to listen to the people from Stanhope Gardens and The Ponds."
