Ray Williams drops Sydney allowance

09 Feb, 2012 01:41 PM
Hawkesbury MP Ray Williams will no longer claim the Sydney Allowance for accommodation.

He had been criticised by Opposaition Leader John Robertson earlier today for claiming the $259 a night payment to sleep in Sydney rather than driving home to Rouse Hill after late nights in parliament or at official functions.

''I have just adviosed the Premier that I will no longer accept that entitlement as of today,'' Mr Williams told the News this afternoon.

''It is my decision.

''I've done nothing wrong but with the outpouring in the media, I'm happy to stop it and cop it on the chin.''

Asked if he would be heading home to bed early tonight, Mr Williams said it would be another late evening of work.

''I'm heading off to a Rural Fire Service meeting tonight and if I’m lucky I’ll be home by 11 o’clock,'' he said.

''It'll be great. It's a presentation and I love doing this sort of thing.''
