The Green Travel Club is a centre initiative that promotes sustainable transport options for employees and for those who live in the community.

Green Travel co-ordinator Sue Wiblin said the library would give people free access to a bicycle for two weeks.

``People said to us that one of the barriers to cycling was that they weren't confident riding on the roads and also the cost of buying a bike,'' she said.

``So through our bike library we'll give people access to AusCycle cycle skills workshops free of charge, and they'll be able to take one of the fabulous TREK bikes for up to two weeks.''

Ms Wiblin said this would be a way of enabling people to see if cycling were suitable for them and of going cycling without having to buy a bike.

A map of the area's cycleway will also be provided.

TREK store manager Isaac King says there are many advantages in riding a bike.

``It's low impact in terms of fitness and it's a great way to socialise with other riders,'' Mr King said.

``Meeting different people that's the best thing about it.

``You find out more about an area when you're riding too. You'll see another guy and you can ask him `where'd you come from?' and he'll point you in the right direction and tell you the best and safest way to get there.''

The Green Travel Club is a funded program, so membership and activities are free.
