Tour de Hills benefits kids

24 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
ROUSE Hill Town Centre was designed on green principles, so its management felt that sponsoring the Tour de Hills bike race was a natural extension of its environmental credentials.

Marketing manager Samantha Zdjelar said the centre promoted sustainable travel through its Green Travel Club.

``Supporting the Tour de Hills is a fantastic way to encourage people to hit the local cycle paths,'' she said.

``Also, as a town centre and a focal point for the community, we see this as an important opportunity to support Rotary and raise funds for the Hear the Children Early Intervention Centre.''

``This partnership aligns perfectly with our focus on sustainable transport and a facilitating a healthy, happy community,'' Ms Zdjelar said. ``We are very excited to be part of this amazing event.''

She said it also linked well with the centre's Green Travel Club.

``The Green Travel Club provides members with resources and information to help them travel more sustainably.

``An event like the Tour de Hills really focuses people's attention on cycling and hopefully inspires them to try something new.

Ms Zdjelar said the centre hoped its sponsorship of the event would help improve awareness of the benefits of cycling, not just for sport or recreation, but as a genuine travel option.

She said the event would start and finish at the centre, ``with our team supporting Rotary in organising and staging the event''.

The celebrations will include a lunch and giveaways. It will be a great active day out for the whole family.

``So whether you are taking part in the cycle event or just coming along to support the riders, there will be something for everyone.''
