IF YOU'RE thinking of giving someone a rabbit for Easter, think again.
So says RSPCA chief vet Magdoline Awad, who tells people not buy to rabbits on impulse or as a surprise gift.
Last year, the RSPCA had 25 per cent more rabbits than usual in the month after Easter.
``We feel this is because many people were given an unwanted bunny as an Easter gift,'' Dr Awad said.
``We can't stress enough how important it is for a pet to be a decision made by the person or household who will be looking after it.
``A pet is never a good idea as a surprise gift.''
She said rabbits needed love and care, as do all pets.
She said that ``breeding like rabbits'' was not just a phrase, and that people who bought two or more rabbits should have them desexed.
Rabbits can live for at least eight years.
