Veterans love the challenge

23 Feb, 2010 11:16 AM
RICHARD Millers, 78, of Carlingford, has been competing in the Tour de Hills Bicycle Classic since it started 15 years ago.

``I have made every year except one,'' Mr Millers said.

After competing on his own in the first year, Mr Millers has since ``talked a few people'' into competing.

There's now a regular group of over 70 years who compete.

``We are all such great friends and we certainly enjoy riding and have a lot of fun,'' Mr Millers said.

``The ride at the Tour de Hills is a great ride; it's wonderful.

``We all used to be quite competitive, but now we are a little less on the pace.''

Some members of the group ride 40km five times a week and are still making up their minds whether to take part in a ride from Sydney to Melbourne.
