A COLLECTION of picture books by local authors and illustrators has made it to the shelves of the Dennis Johnson Library, Stanhope Gardens before their creators have even reached their teens.
The picture books are a product of creative workshops led by children's author Sue Whiting and illustrator Wayne Harris at the library late last year.
The participants aged nine to 12 wrote, designed and illustrated about 30 picture books that featured animals, adventure, family, friendship and fantasy.
Councillor Alan Pendleton recently presented the young authors with a certificate for their efforts at the launch of the collection.
Blacktown Mayor Charlie Lowles said the stories would also be housed in the Mitchell Library collection at the State Library of NSW.
``The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to create something they love and can share with their family and friends,'' Cr Lowles said.
``It is a proud moment for these children to have their book go into library collections around Blacktown City and the Mitchell Library in Sydney.''
