``THIS is the biggest achievement for me so far but it's only just the beginning,'' athletic star Taylor Doyle said.
She's referring to her selection in the 2011 Special Olympic World Games held in Athens from June 25 to July 4.
The Kellyville High year 12 support unit student was shocked at her selection.
``It wasn't what I was expecting. It's so exciting and it's an honour to be representing Australia,'' she said. ``I am training a lot more now to get as good as I can.''
The 17-year-old, who is one of 14 track and field athletes as part of a 130 member Australian team, is among two athletes from NSW chosen for track and field.
She's competing in the 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump and the 4 x 100 metres relay.
``The 100 metres is my favourite because it's the shortest distance and I can get it over with quickly,'' she said.
She was selected in the championships based on her performance at the National Special Olympics Games in Adelaide. She won gold in the long jump and the relay and silver in the 100 and 200 metres.
``I was so pleased with that and I am just so excited I am going to Athens,'' she said.
Her personal best times are 4.43 metres in long jump, 13.05 seconds in the 100 metres and 29.96 seconds in the 200 metres.
``I want to try and get in the low 13s for the 100 and low 29s or 28s for the 200 and over 4.5 metres for long jump. That's the plan,'' Taylor said. ``I just have to keep working hard and I know the hard work pays off because I have made these championships.''
She trains twice a week under coach Matt Rawlings and is a member of the Girraween Senior Athletics Club.
In her junior years, she was a member of the Rouse Hill Rams Athletics Club.
