WINSTON Hills FC welcomed back their favourite son Hayden Foxe as the Sydney FC star attended the club's presentation day.
Foxe, a former Australian International with 15 caps, started his career at Winston Hills in 1982 in one of the club's under-five teams.
The 33-year-old defender said his boyhood club was a major contributing factor in helping him in his international career.
"Coaches like Dennis Wilson [former Winston Hills Premier League coach] were great to learn from as a junior," Foxe said.
"My two brothers - Jeremy and Damien- used to play for Winston Hills too, and Damien's coach would let me occasionally join in at their training sessions.
"I think training against the older guys really helped me."
Leaving Winston Hills as an 11-year-old, Foxe went on to play for big name European clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, West Ham, Leeds United and Portsmouth.
Foxe is now looking towards the future with his current club Sydney FC and a possible coaching role.
The veteran defender told the Hills News he was obtaining his Union of European Football Associations Level 2 coaching badge.
Having learnt from some of the game's best minds such as current Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp, Foxe would be a valuable addition to the Australian coaching ranks.
"I played under Redknapp at West Ham and he was great," he said. "I would say he had one of the best man-management styles I've ever experienced."
