AFL selectors watch young stars

25 May, 2010 11:07 AM
AUSTRALIAN Football's hottest young stars made their way to Blacktown Olympic Park on Saturday to kick off the NAB AFL National Under 18 Championships.

The park played host to round one with the competition providing the perfect opportunity for the next generation of AFL players to impress national selectors.

The long-standing Under 18 competition has proved to be a great stepping stone for many AFL past and present champions including Sydney Swans' legend Tony ``Plugger'' Lockett.

The NSW/ACT Rams were in action against the Northern Territory (pictured) and won 102 to 61. Team GWS coach Kevin Sheedy, was also watching from the grandstands as he searches for the best youngsters from areas of NSW/ACT and the Northern Territory.

The western Sydney based club has first choice of players from selected areas in NSW/ACT and the Northern Territory in future drafts.

The RAMS will return to Blacktown Olympic Park on June 6 when they take on Victoria Country, while NT will return home to take on South Australia on June 5.
