TAYLAH Pollard-Hughes, 11, of Kellyville, is certainly getting her strokes right.
The Hills Swimming and Lifesaving Club member has returned from the NSW State Age Championships with an array of medals.
Taylah, a year 6 Beaumont Hills Public School student, bagged two gold medals 100 and 200 metres breaststroke a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly and a silver in the 12 and under individual medley relay.
``I was really excited to get so many medals,'' Taylah said.
``It was a surprise and my plan was to go as hard as I could and do my best.''
This was Taylah's third state competition.
``The championships were a lot of fun and I am just focused now on improving my times and getting new personal best times,'' she said.
``It's always good to improve. It means you are swimming well, and my coach, Troy Sullivan, has been great in helping me get there.
``He has really helped me go forward and he has taught me different techniques.
``I am now working on really perfecting my strokes. The main stroke I need to improve is the butterfly.''
Taylah's personal best times in the 100m breaststroke are 1:22 seconds, 2:56 seconds in the 200m breaststroke and 1:13 seconds in the 100m butterfly.
She's now aiming for the Australian Age Championships to be held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in April.
``That's the next big competition, so I will just do my best and see how I go,'' Taylah said.
Troy Sullivan said he was pleased with her performance.
The Commonwealth Games and the Olympics are her long-term goals.
Also competing at the NSW State Age Championships from the Hills club were Ryan Roach, who won gold in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke, Emma Payne won bronze in the 100m butterfly and Bailey Forbes won silver in the 12 and under 100m butterfly. Bailey, Jessica Payne, Taylah and Zoue Sefton were members of the silver medal-winning medley relay.
