FUND raising efforts are well under way to help Oakville's track and field star Taylor Doyle participate in next year's Special Olympic Games.
Doyle, secured her selection in the Australian squad in the long jump and 100m sprint categories, after impressing selectors at the Special Olympics National Games.
Doyle bagged four medals at the games which included two gold medals in the long jump, and 4x100m relay team, plus two silver medals in the 100m and 200m sprints.
The 17-year-old who suffers from daily seizures due to her incurable condition of tuberous sclerosis, is proving to be one of the most promising Special Olympics athletes in the country and currently holds the Under 18s Australian triple jump record.
Terry Doyle (Taylor's father) said that his daughter has gone from strength to strength since making the switch to athletics from T-Ball at age nine.
``Taylor works very hard and trains with her coach at least four times a week,'' Terry said. ``She's always smiling and takes great pride in all her accomplishments.
``It took Taylor three years to manage a legal jump in the triple jump event, but now she holds the Australian record in her age group.''
Doyle's fundraising efforts to compete at the games have been boosted with a recent $5000 donation from Castle Hill Country Club.
The money will go towards the $7000 needed to cover all travel costs. Anybody looking to donate funds to Taylor or other Special Olympians can log onto www.specialolympics.com.au/
