THE Los Angeles Galaxy soccer club has offered contracts to two players from The Hills after they beat a junior academy team featuring David Beckham's son, Brooklyn. With Beckham senior watching from the stands, Jackson Bandiera (Glenorie) and Leroy Jennings (Winston Hills) displayed their skills with a tight 2-1 victory against Galaxy's under-13s academy team.
Galaxy had been undefeated for two years going into the match and were looking favourites to win the game after taking a 1-0 lead in the opening five minutes. The Hills-based ACG Football Institute team bounced back though with a 35th-minute goal from Nathan Phillips and an eye-catching second-half solo effort by Bandiera.
The visitors held out Galaxy in the end stages with ACG Football goalkeeper Connor Hammond starring between the posts with critical saves.
ACG Football Institute coach Allan Tasses said his team was buzzing after playing Brooklyn and meeting his famous father afterwards. "The Galaxy boys certainly didn't expect us to beat them," Tasses said. "Coach Craig Harrington and David Beckham came to me after the game and asked for another 30-minutes' play."
Mr Tasses said his players had attracted plenty of interest from the Galaxy talent scouts. "They want to sign Jackson and Leroy and have asked for regular progress reports on another seven players."
Those players include: Paul Tasses (Rouse Hill), Frank Sorbello and Rydon Stathos (Kenthurst), Jake Basden (Dural), Mitchell Wyatt (Glenhaven), Connor Hammond (Kellyville) and Nathan Phillips (West Pennant Hills).
