THE Muirfield Ladies can't help but have a ball of a time whenever they come together on the green and Tuesday was no different.
This time the women golfers took to Muirfield Golf Course dressed in Christmas theme.
``A lot of the time we didn't know what we were doing, scratching our heads a lot but having fun,'' Muirfield Ladies' president Di Steltzer said of their inaugural Christmas in July Stableford Novelty Event, which doubled as a fund-raiser for cancer research after one of their ``favourite ladies'' Jean Sheldon of Northmead died recently following a five-year fight with the disease.
``She said no flowers at the funeral, that the money should go to cancer research,'' Di said.
So the ladies held a raffle and raised $550 for the Cancer Council.
Di said the golf day was ``a huge success''.
``I'm sure it (Christmas in July) will remain on the calendar into the future.''
Their next charity event on Thursday, September 9, will raise money for The Children's Medical Research Institute.
``We'd encourage all women, with a handicap, to come along,'' Di said.
