Kids get tips from the top

27 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
RUGBY league personality Mario Fenech was among the coaches at the Macquarie Sports Kids to Kangaroos coaching clinic in Kellyville Park on July 14-16.

The clinics, for boys and girls aged 5-12, teach catching and passing, scoring tries, kicking, tagging activities and tackling bags.

The kids also get to take part in rugby league lead-up games.

Fenech talked with the kids about the benefits of playing rugby league and keeping active.

``Kids aren't shy they all know who he [Mario Fenech] is,'' said Parramatta Eels development officer Mitch Krahe, who organised the camp.

Krahe said Fenech also stressed the importance of junior development and attending coaching clinics.

``One thing he did bring up was that he played in five grand finals and never won one,'' Krahe said.

``The kids thought that was pretty funny.''
