TWENTY-FOUR junior representative basketball teams from around the country met at the Hills Basketball Stadium last week to contest the 2012 East Coast Challenge (ECC).
Fifteen players from the Hills District Basketball Association were selected to play in the respective NSW Metropolitan under 16 and under 18 men's and women's teams respectively including Amelia Iskowicz and Chloe Marcelino (under 16 women), Arran Bannatyne, Thomas Cowell, Mitchell Evans, Branislav Gligorevic, Jay Green, Vladimir Miladinovic, Mark Morian and William Pearce (under 16 men), Katelyn Bower, Zoe Burke, Brooke Roditis and Brittnee Sewell (under 18 women) and Situa Solaese (under 18 men).
Victorian teams dominated all week, with six of their eight teams reaching the four grand finals.
South Australia (under 16 women) and NSW Metro #1 (under 18 men) took the final two spots in the main games of the tournament.
The under 18 men's team was NSW's only hope and although they had been defeated by Victoria Metro #1 team 52-40 earlier in the day, the players showed great character to out-run and out-play the Victorians in the grand final to score a commanding 50-40 win.
