Pierce speeds to the front

15 Jun, 2010 12:32 PM
PIERCE Lehane, of Castle Hill, is going places fast.

Lehane, who attends the Northholm Grammar School at Arcadia, is not only one of the country's top young karting drivers, but he is currently leading the championship in the sport's elite championship, the CIK Stars of Karting Series an elite competition for the nation's best drivers.

With the next round in the four-round championship at Eastern Creek, Pierce is looking forward to continuing his good form that has seen him win the opening two events.

``It has been great to dominate the series but I'm fully aware that there is still a long way to go before the championship is decided,'' he said.

Pierce is certainly not expecting an easy time this weekend.

``At the first round everyone was very much still learning a lot about the engines and stickier tyres, by round two everyone had started to find more speed and I'd expect the same this weekend.''

If successful in his quest to become the champion, Pierce will get the opportunity to race overseas at one of the world's top karting events in either Monaco or Macau.

One young talent who will be chasing him down this weekend is Cherrybrook resident Jonathan Venter.

He may only be 14, but he's been racing for 10 years and he isn't about to give up on the fight to become the champion.

Jonathan, who wants a career in motorsport, is hoping the home track advantage this weekend will assist him to win in round three.

``I'm really hoping that it is my big round opportunity to shine on my home track,'' he said. ``Eastern Creek probably wouldn't be one of my favourite tracks but it is probably the easiest track in the series to drive, but I think it will be hard on the brakes and pretty physical on the body.''
