Talented tennis trio

TENNIS is in the genes for members of the Smith family of Castle Hill as well as being a passion they share.

Brothers Blake, Cameron and Jordan have risen a combined 626 places in Australian rankings over the past year and show no signs of slowing down.

Jordan, 13, is ranked 309 in the country and fifth for all boys born after 1996.

He recently returned from the Australian Open in Melbourne, which he visited as part of Tennis Australia's National Champions camp.

Jordan was given free accommodation and airfares to learn discipline, professionalism and training techniques from elite players in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

He watched matches, had media training and even mingled with tennis players.

``It was a good experience being able to see players hit and warm up,'' Jordan said.

``I got to see my favourite player, Roger Federer, who has a good attitude and has won so many tournaments.

``I want to be a professional as well.''

Jordan already trains at the National Tennis Academy in Homebush three times a week and has an impressive swag of titles under his belt.

He has won the Optus Winter Nationals for boys 12 and under, as well as the Metropolitan Hardcourts for 14 and under.

Jordan was also undefeated in the state's Optus 14 and under team and won the Nepean Junior Open for 14 and under and Hunter Valley Grasscourt Championships for 12 and under.

Brother Cameron, 16, is ranked 213, and won the Bathurst Open 18 and under and Medibank Age Championships for 16 and under.

He is also captain of the Oakhill College team, who were runners-up in the National Schools Tennis Event.

Blake, 18, is ranked 170 and won the Metropolitan Hardcourt Championships for 18 and under.

He is studying sports coaching and administration and coaches at Castle Hill Tennis Academy, which his father (and former professional player) Neil operates with wife Michelle.

``They've all been playing since they were about three or four and they could hold a racquet in their hands,'' Mrs Smith said.

``They had no choice!

``We're happy for them to reach their potential and play their best. We hope they enjoy tennis for the rest of their lives.''
